This week we traveled to Tacoma and were able to experience beautiful and powerful art in the Tacoma museums of both art and history. We also explored the Chinese Reconciliation Park which had Chinese American history and authentic architecture and statues throughout, all overlooking a picturesque view of the water.
On Wednesday we had a chance to get more in touch with our final projects. I needed that time, because I feel that by finally having a chance to bounce some ideas around I was able to gain a clearer idea of the direction I want to take my Home project.
Friday was also helpful. My blog has begun to take shape, literally, and seminar was extremely enlightening. During the reading of Julie Otsuka’s, “When the Emperor was Divine” I found myself straying from the point of the text overall and focusing on fragments of the story that weren’t necessarily pertinent to the big picture. However, during a group discussion as I was listening I found that many of the people had also focused on some of the smaller details, and I was also able to pick up on more than I had during my read through of the novel.
I was still to shy to speak up– but I think this next week may be the week when I add to the conversation.
