There’s an off-hand reference to Frank Chin in Kip Fulbeck’s Paper Bullets that sent me down a YouTube hole searching Fulbeck, as well as Chin.  I feel you can gain insight from hearing an author’s actual voice and gain a better sense of where they’re coming from.  Eventually, I came across this short clip of Frank Chin discussing some of his reasoning for writing what he does.  The clip also includes a scene from a televised version of his play, Year of The Dragon starring George Takei.  Interestingly, Paper Bullets contained a number of references to Star Trek, Sulu specifically.
