Geoducks Ready for CCC Championship after Pacific Twilight

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Taking advantage of sunny conditions, the Evergreen Geoducks raced one last time before the 2013 Cascade Conference Championships, putting up solid performances on Friday and Saturday at the Pacific Twilight in Forest Grove, Ore.

On Friday afternoon, sophomore Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) opened up the competition in the 1500m run, taking 13th with a time of 4:06.17, three seconds faster than his seed time.  Aaron Jones (San Bruno, Calif./Capuchino HS) followed that up with a fifth place performance in the 10000m run, finishing the race in a time of 34:57.43.

Les Jones had another strong performance in his second race of the weekend, putting up a time of 50.39 to take ninth in the 400m run to qualify for the conference championship in the event.  In the 800m run, freshman Wes Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) won his heat with a time of 1:56.17 to set a new school record in the event.

In the lone woman’s race of the week for the Geoducks, freshman Jamie Cummins (Lopez Island, Wash./Lopez Island HS) took 27th in the 800m run with a time of 2:37.17.

Junior Zephyr Forest (Fairfax, Calif./Sir Francis Drake HS) took 14th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 59.53.  In the final event of the weekend, the Geoducks took third overall in the 4x400m relay, finishing just a quarter-second behind NCAA Division I Portland, who took second in the event.

The Geoducks head back to Oregon on Friday for the first day of the 2013 Cascade Conference Track and Field Championship at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore.
