Eagles Fly Past Geoducks, 4-0, in Non-Conference Match

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Playing a rare non-conference match against a fellow Cascade Conference opponent, the Evergreen Geoducks could not collect the win, falling to in-state rival Northwest, 4-0, in a women’s soccer match on Friday afternoon at Northwest University in Kirkland, Wash.

The Eagles (3-5-0) got on the scoreboard early as Jessica Oliver dribbled up to the six-yard box and fired it past Evergreen (1-3-0) keeper Kaitlin MacKenzie (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS/Shoreline CC).  NU made it 2-0 about ten minutes before halftime, as Rachel Saleen took a pass from Megan Beisley and fired in a goal from 20 yards out.

Northwest scored against just a few minutes into the second half as Saleen got a head on a corner kick by Shea Samuelsen in the 48th minute for the 3-0 lead.  The final goal came in the 69th minute as Lina Arciniegas passed in a ball to Tiffany Taylor, who unleashed a long-distance shot that snuck in the upper left corner of the goal.

Despite allowing the four NU goals, MacKenzie had a strong day in net, making six saves.  Evergreen was outshot, 18-9, on the match but was whistled for just three fouls, compared with nine for Northwest.

The Geoducks have one more non-conference match remaining as they will head up to Everett, Wash. on Sep. 29 to take on Trinity Lutheran, beginning at 4 p.m.

Geoducks Outduel Knights, 1-0, in CCC Opener

OLYMPIA, Wash. – With much of the match played in a heavy rain, the Evergreen Geoducks and Warner Pacific Knights battled until the 109th minute as the host Geoducks earned the overtime win in a Cascade Conference men’s soccer match on Tuesday evening at Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.

The rains began to fall about 10 minutes before match time and continued for the entire first half as the two teams played tight but neither squad could break onto the scoreboard.  Evergreen (3-1-1, 1-0-0 CCC) held a slight lead on shots at 6-5, forcing Warner Pacific (1-2-0, 0-1-0 CCC) to make four first half saves.

The second half also began under rainy skies as the Geoducks put on the pressure.  WPC took a blow in the 61st minute as Ricky Carmolinga was shown a straight red following a hard tackle near midfield.  Knight keeper Dorian Lair was exceptional in the second half of regulation, making seven of his 12 saves to force extra time.

After a scoreless first overtime period, it looked like the two teams were going to be headed for a second scoreless overtime period but Jack Fortune (Monroe, Wash./Monroe HS) got in a ball to Willie Spurr (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt HS), who powered it in for the game winner and his second goal of the season.

The Geoducks held a 23-13 advantage on shots but Lair was solid in net, making 12 saves and allowing just one goal.  Evergreen keeper Collin Harlow (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita HS/Shoreline CC) also had a solid game, making five saves to collect his third shutout of the season.

Evergreen hits the road this weekend, traveling to Oregon Tech on Saturday.  Match time with the Hustlin’ Owls is set for 1 p.m. in Klamath Falls, Ore.  Warner Pacific will also be in action on Saturday, playing host to Corban.

LA GRANDE, Ore. – After helping lead the Evergreen Geoducks to a 1-0 non-conference win over Whitworth on Saturday, seniors Jeff Roland (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. #16 Mounties Sweep Past Geoducks

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Junior Victoria Love (Seaside, Calif./Seaside HS/Hartnell College) threw down 11 kills with just one error to show she is among the elite attackers in the Cascade Conference but it was the 16th-ranked Eastern Oregon Mountaineers earning the straight set victory over the Evergreen Geoducks in a CCC volleyball match on Saturday night in La Grande, Ore.

After action was tight in the early stages of the first set, Eastern went on a 12-1 run that put the nationally-ranked Mounties ahead by a comfortable margin.  A 5-0 run ended the frame, giving EOU the 25-12 set one win.

The second set started similar to the first but the Geoducks dug deep and kept with the CCC-leading Mountaineers.  After Evergreen pulled within two points at 19-17, Eastern Oregon turned up the juice and powered their way to a 25-20 set two win to extend the match lead.

Evergreen looked like they might grab a win in the third set as the Geoducks led for the first half.  EOU tied the match up at 17-17 and a 6-0 run clinched the match for the Mountaineers at 25-19.

Love led the way for the Geoducks, finished with 11 kills and one errors on 24 attacks for a .417 clip.  Kelsey Delagrange (Longview, Wash./Kelso HS/Mt. Hood CC) picked up 27 assists on the night while Liza Domingo (Ka’a’awa, Hawai’i/Kahuka HS/Lower Columbia College) added 12 digs to her season totals.

EOU was led by 15 kills from Stefani Sorensen and 10 from Casey Loper.  Karly Stack led the Mounties with 25 assist while Jessalyn Smith finished with a match-high 15 digs.  The Mountaineers hit .324 on the night, connecting for 47 kills and 11 errors on 111 total attacks.

Following a pair of scrimmages on Tuesday afternoon in Bremerton, Wash., the Geoducks will play at Northwest on Friday night.  First serve with the Eagles is set for 7 p.m. at NU Pavilion in Kirkland, Wash.
