CALDWELL, Idaho – After conceding an early goal, the Evergreen Geoducks couldn’t mount a comeback, falling to the College of Idaho Yotes, 2-1, in a Cascade Conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell, Idaho.

The Yotes (2-8-0, 2-4-0 CCC) got on the board in just the seventh minute as Yan Gioseffi sent a free kick into the box and Jorge Brambila took control of the ball, firing it in from the top of the six-yard box for the 1-0 lead.

Evergreen finished the match on a high note as Willie Spurr (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt HS) sent in a long ball to Sebastian Lyons (Port Townsend, Wash./Port Townsend HS/Skagit Valley CC), who beat two defenders before putting it in for his first goal of the season.

The Geoducks held a slight advantage in shots, 14-13, but the Yotes held a 9-3 advantage in the second half.   Mauricio Sanchez (East Wenatchee, Wash./Eastmont HS/Wenatchee Valley CC) made a pair of saves before being shown a red card in the 71st minute following a tackle.  Mitch Treend (Vancouver, Wash./Prairie HS) came in for the final 20 minutes, making one save.

Geoducks, Warriors Play To Scoreless Draw

SALEM, Ore. – After battling for 90 minutes in regulation and 20 minutes after that, the Evergreen Geoducks and Corban Warriors played to a scoreless tie in a Cascade Conference men’s soccer match on Saturday afternoon in Salem, Ore.

Following a gameday venue change that saw the match move six miles from Corban’s Warrior field to Sparks Field on the campus of Willamette University, the host Warriors showed early why they came into the game holding an unblemished record.

Despite the offensive onslaught by Corban, the Geoduck defense held tough and the two teams found themselves scoreless after 45 minutes and still scoreless after 90 minutes.

Evergreen turned the tables a bit in the overtime periods as the Geoducks managed four of their eight total shots in extra time, holding Corban to just three shots in the final 20 minutes after the Warriors put up 18 shots in regulation.

Geoduck keeper Mauricio Sanchez (East Wenatchee, Wash./Eastmont HS/Wenatchee Valley CC) was magnificent in the match, making 10 saves to collect the shutout.  Corban’s Jordan Farr made two saves in the shutout, including one with just four seconds to play in the second overtime.

The Geoducks return to Olympia on Tuesday as they play host to nationally-ranked Concordia in a battle of conference rivals. First kick with the Cavaliers is set for 4 p.m. on Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.
