Geoducks Conclude First Day at CCC Championships

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Making the long trek to Klamath Falls on Friday morning, the Evergreen Geoducks got right down to business Friday evening as two runners took to the track at the 2012 Cascade Conference Championships, hosted by Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Ore. In the first event of the meet for the Geoducks, freshman Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) made his championship debut in the 1500m run. Jones took 14th place while representing Evergreen in a race won by Eric Avila of Southern Oregon with a time of 4:01.35. Sophomore Zephyr Forest (Fairfax, Calif./Drake HS) competed in his first event of the weekend on Friday night, placing 12th in the 110m Hurdles. Forest took fifth in the first section with a time of 17.28. Sophomore Sullivan Stevens of Southern Oregon won the conference championship with a blazing time of 14.94. The action continues on Saturday afternoon as Forest competes in his best event of the meet, the 400m hurdles, at approximately 1:10p.m. Freshman Aaron Jones (San Bruno, Calif./Capuchino HS) closes things out for the Geoducks in the 5000m run, set to begin at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Forest Grabs First Collegiate Win at Linfield Twilight

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Shaving nearly a half-second off his seed time, Evergreen sophomore Zephyr Forest (Fairfax, Calif./Drake HS) earned his first collegiate win, outrunning the field in the 400m Hurdles on Friday at the Linfield Twilight Meet in McMinnville, Ore. Forest held off George Fox’s Clayton Pugsley, a finalist in the event at the 2012 Northwest Conference Championships, by 21 one-hundredths of a second with a time of 57.92, despite having a seed time of a full second slower. With the win, the sophomore moves up the seventh on the Cascade Conference outdoor performance list. A pair of freshman also competed for the Geoducks on Friday. Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma HS) took fifth in the 5000m run with a time of 17:16.46 while Alec Messman (Lacey, Wash./River Ridge HS) took ninth in the 1500m run with a mark of 4:53.60. The Geoducks will join the rest of the Cascade Conference next week when they make the long trek to Klamath Falls, Ore. for the 2012 CCC Championships, hosted by Oregon Tech.

Forest Leads Geoducks at SMU Invite

Forest complete the hurdled lap in 58.32, over two seconds faster than he has run this year, to take 10th in a primarily NCAA field. In addition to setting a collegiate best for the sophomore, it also propels him into the top-10 in the Cascade Conference this season at ninth. He also competed in the 110m hurdles, taking 14th with a time of 17.24. Freshman Les Jones (Tacoma, Wash./Mt. Tahoma) also ran twice for the Geoducks. Jones took 14th in the 800m run with a time of 2:06.55 and 20th in the 1500m run with a time of 4:38.54. Fellow freshman Alec Messman (Lacey, Wash./River Ridge) also ran the 1500m run, taking 24th with a time of 4:45.08. Drew Hawley (SeaTac, Wash./Mt. Rainier HS) took 13th in the 5000m run, posting a mark of 19:15.24 to improve his season-best by over 30 seconds. Geoducks Announce Signees for 2012

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Evergreen men’s soccer head coach John Purtteman has announced eight new players for the 2012 campaign, including student-athletes from four different states. The Geoducks are set to kickoff the season on Aug. 17 at home against Trinity Lutheran. Brady Espinoza: Two time NWAACC All Star and Captain at Walla Walla CC. Brady is a smart, vocal leader who should anchor the backline for the Geoducks. Greg Wolfe: Another two time NWAACC All Star from Shoreline CC. Greg was premier central midfield player who was selected as the North Region MVP in the NWAACC. Joseph Ademofe: Joseph was an NWAACC All-Academic performer for Shoreline CC. Joseph is fantastic in possession and sees the game tremendously well. Sebastian Lyons: Sebastian was the Captain at Skagit Valley College but had his time limited due to injuries. Sebastian works tirelessly up and down the flanks and can play either as a wide back or wide attacking player. Brendan Rosgen: Brendan played two years at Edmonds CC. Prior to Edmonds, Brendan had a huge role in helping Snohomish High School win a State Championship scoring in the Final against North Kitsap High School. James Meaney: James is the all time leading goal scorer for Colony High School in Alaska despite switching to goalkeeper for his final season. James is a strong, technical target player who will provide scoring punch for the Geoducks. Sean Trees: Sean is a two time State Champion at Boise High School in Idaho. Sean is a strong back who can control the backline from a central position, or attack down the flanks out of the back. Ian Hazard-Bill: Ian has played as a back and a midfield player, winning a Nor Cal State Championship with Marin FC.
