Tasting lab week 5: Corn, Chai Mixture and Turmeric Tisane

For week 5 we were given a number of different corn products that were processed differently. The ones that I chose to taste were cornbread, corn flakes, corn chips, corn starch and bourbon. Unfortunately, the bourbon was in a dixie cup and because alcohol can eat away at wax, the bourbon seeped onto my plate and was soaked up by the other corn products. Needless to say, this caused each and every item to taste strongly of bourbon.

This week we also tasted a chai mixture and a turmeric tisane. The chai mixture tastes like a number of different spices that I am familiar with: cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, anise and ginger. This is a very mellow tisane with spice like flavor and a brown color. The cinnamon comes through in the aroma more intensely than any of the other flavoring agents. The anise and cardamom seems to dominate the flavor.

The turmeric tisane has an extremely yellow color, and an earthy flavor that is somewhat musty and reminiscent of root vegetables.
