ILC Week 4
This week was a giving week. I met with the Eugene Avant Gardeners as well as some Rainbow organizers down in Eugene. It was interesting to be at the hub of information for the rainbow gathering. When I arrived to Marken’s house there were several Rainbow Elders there including Art who is a longtime Rainbow Scout. Rainbow Scouts help to find ideal locations with big enough meadows, springs, and enough space for upward of 20,000 people to camp. It was really cool to be in house as these kinds of decisions were being discussed.
I spent some time building community with the elders and hearing about Rainbow Gatherings in the past and their experiences at Ram Das’ Ashram.
After leaving the Rainbow house, I met with the Eugene Avant Gardeners. They are a group of rebel gardeners who grow and GIVE AWAY their food. It was great to connect with such like spirits. I was able to give them over 500 vegetable starts! I was delighted to be gifted two of their zines as well as an Avant Gardener patch.
This week was also busy distributing bread. I volunteered at the warehouse and was able to fill my car up 2 times-to be overflowing with bread. I gave bread to PCAP through Family Education Support Services, The Serenity House, One Hand Helping another, and The Belly Brigade, as well as to individual families that are in need.
I continue to check and water the starts daily and am networking with different organizers and organizations to give them all away.
I am also reading about organic farming and partnerships with nature in a book called The Elves of Lilly Hill Farm. I feel that this book in a serendipitous relates to The Lives of Animals. Through reading the book I heard of a farm called Findhorn Farm that is a 46 year-old perma-culture farm that works to exist in harmony with all of nature-including the spirits that represent different plants. They are famous for having incredible results, fertile garden, and abnormally large produce. I was so delighted to find this real-world component that I subscribed to all of their email lists!
