PORTLAND, Ore. – Evergreen’s men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Warner Pacific College Invitational today at Westmoreland Park in Portland. Five Cascade Conference schools went head to head.
With the weather pleasant and cool for the women’s 5k race, WPC’s Kayla Perry took the individual title in 18:56. Northwest Christian took the team title with the low score of 31 points. NCU was followed by Warner Pacific (61), Corban College (64), Oregon Tech (69), and Evergreen (122).
Geoduck Britta Peterson lead the team in 13th place overall in a time of 20:31 Times were not fast overall for the field on the flat but possibly long course, but the race gave the competitors to see where they stand among many of their CCC rivals.
The skies opened up in a downpour a few minutes into the men’s 8k race which made for some soggy running conditions. Unattached runner Tahir Chakisso crossed the line first in 25:30.
The top scoring runner was Caleb Goins of Corban College in 25:35. Karim Shakalia was the top finisher for Warner Pacific (3rd), leading the Knights to a low score of 35. Following WP were Corban (43), Northwest Christian (61), Evergreen State (104), and Oregon Tech (120).
Evergreen was paced by Brian Rakestraw who ran a comfortable race to finish fourth.
