ASHLAND, Ore. – Running in their final event of the season, the Evergreen Geoducks mirrored their finishes from a year ago taking ninth in the women’s 5k and tenth in the men’s 8k at the 2011 Cascade Conference Championships on Saturday at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Ashland, Ore.
The Geoduck women were led by senior Karissa Carlson (Pateros,Wash./Pateros HS), who finished 25th overall with a time of 19:42.04, most likely leaving her outside of the at-large invites to the NAIA National Championships in two weeks. Freshman Savy Rigney (Lake Arrowhead, Calif./Rim of the World HS) also finished in the top 50, taking 42nd overall with a time of 20:15.32. As a team, the Evergreen women had 252 points, placing them 44 points back of eighth-place Oregon Tech but 34 points ahead of Warner Pacific. Karlee Coffey of Eastern Oregon took the individual title with a time of 18:10.71 while College of Idaho took the team title with 51 points, ten points ahead of second place Concordia.
On the men’s side, the Geoducks struggled in 2011, taking tenth among ten teams at this year’s championship. Evergreen’s top finisher was freshman Aaron Jones (San Bruno, Calif,/Capuchino HS), who took 60th overall with a time of 29:30.45. Greg Montgomery of College of Idaho took the individual title with a time of 25:06.82 while host Southern Oregon won the team title with 41 points.
The Cascade Conference plays host to the 2011 NAIA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19 at Fort Vancouver in Vancouver, Wash.
