New Student Fee Proposal:

Art Constantino,Phyllis Lane and Michael Zimmerman came to the GSU meeting and presented a new proposal for a new student fee. This new student fee would cover the expanding and growing of costs for orientation programs. The state is no longer funding our programs and Evergreen proposes we have a one time new student fee to help fund the programs. This money will help pay for a book for each new student and the author to come speak at an Evergreen event. For new students coming in the fall, there will be an entire week of orientation and those students would pay a higher student fee, and students coming in the winter and spring would participated in a day long orientation and pay a smaller new student fee. These fees would also fund more days to add onto the orientation to lower retention rates at Evergreen.

Ballot Item:

The college has asked the GSU to help find a way to ask the input of the students on campus for programs or areas of student they would like to see in the future. The GSU decided to make it a ballot item and collect suggestions. Tasha wrote

“On an annual basis, GSU will propose four temporary faculty positions that students would most like to see filled in the following academic year. One of these faculty positions will be filled. We would like your input.

Are their classes or programs that you would like to see that aren’t currently available at The Evergreen State College? Are there any general interdisciplinary areas that you would like to see enhanced? Please limit your suggestions to four and you can add in explanations as to why.”

Tasha motioned to approve this ballot item and put it on the GSU voting webpage. Chelseaseconds. Motion passed.
