SUMMARY OF BUSINESS

Today the GSU heard testimony from a variety of students concerning Amendment 3.6. Several GSU members spoke of the need to pace the issue—given the haste in passing the amendment in the first place—with the intention of making the process more thorough starting with reviewing the decision scrupulously rather than making another rushed decision (to resend). Some argued in favor of resending the amendment immediately and starting fresh, citing the need to have a more open discussion without the antagonistic atmosphere centered around an imperfect decision still being in place. Others proposed holding the amendment in place for the time being while a committee is formed to critically examine all of its facets. The amendment does not have a direct effect on the voluntary fee process until the second week of Spring quarter. Yet as one student mentioned, there are indirect effects of amendment that may affect the efficacy of the proceedings.

The GSU voted to resend the amendment which did not pass (6/15). The GSU passed a motion (13/15) to set up a committee made up of GSU and students to review the amendment and make a recommendation to the GSU about next steps.

Jonathan was appointed to the IT Committee (14/15), a new committee for Evergreen to overview IT on campus and represent student interests in terms of internet, or other tech issues.

Committee updates, taco truck initiative, the space on the 4th floor, and lobby day review tabled to next week.
