Today the GSU held its final meeting of the 2012-2013 year.

The GSU certified the election results which were as follows:

  1. GSU Representatives-elect for the 2013-2014 year = Aaron Harris, Adam Noble, Andrew Sinclair, Benjamin Plato, Brendan Hale, Christian Craft, Colby Fisher, Dante Garcia, Douglas Ridley, Faurest Nelson Wicks, Forest Hunt, Gabriel Chavez, Hesham Badissy, Jonathan Gottlieb, Khadija Hassan, Lance Fourstar, Natalie Rehberger, and Piper Connelly.
  2. WashPIRG fee passed with 933 FOR, 173 AGAINST, and 25 ABSTENTIONS.
  3. Citizens United Ballot Initiative passed with 1027 FOR, 44 AGAINST, and 60 ABSTENTIONS.
  4. Amendment to Article V of the GSU Constitution passed with 980 FOR, 81 AGAINST, and 70 ABSTENTIONS.

The GSU then discussed plans for hosting the California Taco Truck tonight and tomorrow night. Flyers have been put up in the library, computer center, CAB, CRC, HCC, Café, dorms, and apartments and the administration consented to waive the 10% commission to allow the taco truck a greater profit margin. There will be a DJ and games going on Red Square as well. Tonight’s event has in fact been cancelled due to a last-minute paperwork request from the administration that California Taco could not satisfy in time. The GSU discussed ways to collect metrics for profits and student interest.

The GSU briefly discussed the lecture series program, reviewing last week’s lecture with Larry Masqueda who did a good job. That event received a decent turnout. The GSU reflected that the most popular talks have thus far been science related and thus going forward that ought to be highlighted.

The GSU approved a summer agenda that includes working with facilities on getting gender neutral bathrooms for the 3rd floor of the CAB, working with Aramark and Sharon Goodman pending the success of the taco truck, and setting up the student advisory committee mandated by the Washington state legislature.

The GSU discussed the installation of the Idea Paint board which is now up in the HCC. The body created tentative guidelines for use, which one representative suggested could be drawn up on steel in the metal shop.

For summer and the transition to the 2013-2014 GSU, Donald and Tyler will begin transferring contacts and duties over to the new leadership in July; hopefully everything will be done by August. Finally, Jonathan volunteered and was approved for the job of summer office manager (flexible, 5-10 hours a week, updates the website, and develops fall retreat).
