Mediaworks Application

Mediaworks Application PDF

The purpose of this application is to assess whether you have the skills and experience to be successful in this program and whether it’s the right fit for you. Mediaworks would be a positive learning environment for students who are strong in foundational humanities practices of critical thinking, reading, and writing; who are ready to collaborate intensively with peers who may have significantly different backgrounds and perspectives; who are willing to encounter challenging ideas, texts, and tasks; and who have the capacity to do independent work and to organize and manage time effectively. We will be evaluating applications based on how they demonstrate readiness in these areas.

To apply to Mediaworks, please type up a document answering the following questions, and EMAIL it –along with any other attachments as described below – to russoj@evergreen.edu.

1. Provide your LEGAL NAME (along with a preferred name if applicable), student ID NUMBER, and EMAIL address.

2. Provide your expected CLASS STANDING as of Fall 2015.

3. Provide a writing sample of up to 3 double-spaced pages that is representative of your critical writing skills. This could be:

  • a current draft of your Academic Statement for Evergreen
  • an essay or excerpt of an essay that you wrote for a program/class
  • a sample of other recent professional or journalistic writing

4. If you are a current Evergreen student, submit a recent faculty evaluation. If you are a transfer student, you may OPTIONALLY provide a letter of recommendation from a faculty member elsewhere. If you don’t have access to a reference this will not negatively affect your application.

5. List the college programs/courses you have successfully completed, at Evergreen or elsewhere, along with the dates you participated (quarter/semester and year).

6. Write a one paragraph response to this prompt: Think of one artistic, popular, or critical text in any medium that you found unfamiliar, unexpected, or uncomfortable. What was it, what about it did you find challenging, and how did you respond to and engage with the text to deepen your understanding of its form, content, or message?

Please follow these instructions carefully. We will not review incomplete applications. We will not review materials outside of what is listed above.

The priority deadline for application submission is Thursday, May 14, 2015 (the day after the Academic Fair). We will post names of admitted students on the Mediaworks blog beginning Monday, May 18th. INDIVIDUAL EMAILS WILL NOT BE SENT.

We will continue to review applications after this deadline on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as there is space remaining in the program.
