The Evergreen State College Men’s Soccer team completed a four-game road stretch with a tie at Oregon Tech and a win at Northwest Christian College. This two-game swing through Southern Oregon followed a victory at Corban College last weekend that has the Geoducks moving up the table in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Freshman Keeper Christian Pettit played a huge role in the OIT game, recording six saves in his 63 minutes of play. The game took a twist in the 64th minute when Pettit was called for tripping after he slipped coming out to defend a breakaway. The resulting red card left Evergreen to finish the match with 10 men.
The Geoducks looked as though they might secure all three points when Brice Boum took a Corey Johnson feed and finished with a blast to the lower right corner of the OIT net in the 79th minute. Tech pressed forward and ultimately drew level when Victor Corona finished off a deflection in the last minute of regulation. Overtime saw the Geoducks pushing the game with Albert Anabtawi driving a shot off the post and OIT keeper Loren Jessen diving to thwart another before ultimately settling for a draw.
The NCU match was a tale of two halves as the Geoducks played well early but seemed to tire as the game moved into the second frame. Evergreen created a few chances on the counter but NCU Keeper Nick Kratzke stood up to the attempts on goal. Junior forward Corey Johnson’s bullet in the 88th minute ultimately separated the teams as a diving Kratzke was finally undone. The Geoducks will finish the season at home this Saturday against in state rival Northwest University in a contest to determine forth place in the conference.
