Fishery Biologist

Required knowledge and skills:

NSR is seeking a full-time Fishery Biologist to perform quantitative and qualitative fishery and water resource investigations, aquatic habitat evaluations, monitoring projects, and environmental assessments. Activitiesinclude designing studies; literature and records research; conducting field studies; analyzing data; reviewing and writing technical reports; contributing to environmental compliance documents; and providing technical support to various project teams. The incumbent must be able to work successfully bothindependently and as a team member under the supervision of a lead scientist, and must be able to work cooperatively with federal, state, and local agencies, private landowners, and non-government organizations.

Minimum Requirements:

At a minimum, a four-year college degree in fisheries or marine biology, aquatic ecology, or related discipline is required. Relevant work experience is preferred, but not required. Preference will be given to applicants with excellent academic and professional credentials. Experience with biological and fishery field data collection, computing and statistical techniques, and computer-related skills are required. Experience with applied fishery research and management, fish culture, water quality, stream ecology and watershed science, limnology, and environmental assessment is required. A demonstrated understanding of environmental laws and regulations is required. Knowledge and experience with eastern Pacific Basin, North American intermountain provinces, and southwestern U.S. fishes is preferred. Applicants must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. An ability to work well with people and lead tasks is required. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities for field research methods, quantitative analyses, and communication techniques are required.
