The Oregon Coast Aquarium is seeking an enthusiastic student to join the aviculture team in the care of its bird collection.  This is a full-time, unpaid, position lasting from June through September.

The intern will be assisting the aviculture staff in all aspects of bird husbandry and daily exhibit maintenance, including: diet preparation, feeding birds, cleaning of exhibits and service areas, monitoring individual bird health, behavior and well-being, nest checking and egg handling.  Interaction with and educational presentations for aquarium visitors and special groups is sometimes required.  Assisting with treatments and medical procedures, for sick and injured birds, may also be required.  The person in this intern position will work under the guidance of the permanent aviculture staff, but should be able to work independently as well. Work takes place in all outdoor weatherconditions and requires walking and climbing on wet uneven surfaces.

Coursework in biology or zoology related field is required.  Previous animal experience is preferred.  Ability to use computers and standard, commonly accepted computer programs is required.  Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and in a team environment, is required.
