Position Announcement 2 Summer Field Technicians

Participate in project effectiveness monitoring for restoration projects occurring in the North Santiam, South Santiam and Calapooia basins. Work is completed primarily in the field. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in stream ecology or restoration.

Duties: Field technicians will collect data at established and proposed restoration sites. Surveyors collect info on physical in-stream habitat characteristics and adjacent riparian conditions, sample macroinvertebrates, estimate plant survival at restoration sites, take photos, and will snorkel streams to determine relative abundance of salmonids.

Applicants will be able to accurately and consistently collect data, use a field computer, GPS, be familiar with stream survey techniques, identify stream bankfull width, classify substrate, and identify macroinvertebrates, fish, trees and shrubs.

Applicants must have current Oregon driver’s license and a good driving record, be responsible, able to work without supervision and have a good attitude.

Experience with stream surveys, vegetation surveys, photo point monitoring and Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and GIS is a plus.

These positions involve working in streams and on rough uneven surfaces. Daily working conditions range from hot and dry to cold and wet.
