Overview & Job Duties:

Work in a joint capacity with Pheasants Forever, Inc. (PF), Meeker SWCD, McLeod SWCD, USDA, and the Farm Bill Assistance Partnership (MN DNR, MN BWSR, and PF) to promote, accelerate enrollment, coordinate and implement the conservation provisions of the Federal Farm Bill and other related wildlife conservation programs.  Activities will include program promotion, contract coordination, conservation planning, conservation plan modification, site assessment and reporting.  Provide technical assistance for wildlife habitat enhancement techniques to private landowners and public organizations.  Meet with local chapters of Pheasants Forever to influence habitat management efforts and participate in statewide habitat meetings.  Attend Farm Bill Assistance Partnership training and assist in coordinating technical assistance efforts.  Implement specific conservation programs to improve wildlife habitat.  Assist or coordinate activities and projects as assigned by supervisor relevant to PF, the Farm Bill Assistance Partnership and Meeker/McLeod SWCDs.

 

Duties will also include promotion and incorporation of the Greenleaf Working Lands Initiative objectives and other private lands habitat programs.  Biologist will also write grants to further local conservation efforts and coordinate local efforts with state and national programs.

 

 

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with landowners and partner agencies.

Ability to work independently with little supervision and with diverse clientele.

Knowledge of wildlife ecology, wetland and grassland management including the ability to utilize various habitat management tools in the development of management plans.

Knowledge of conservation and wildlife programs provided by Federal (i.e. Farm Bill, US Fish and Wildlife Service), State agencies, conservation districts and PF.  In addition, knowledge of how these programs are implemented in an agricultural landscape is desired.

Excellent verbal and written communication.

Strong organizational skills.

Valid driver’s license required; work vehicle provided by FWS; some use of personal vehicle required (mileage reimbursement provided).

Able to obtain USDA Federal Security Clearance.

 

 

Training and Experience Guideline: Any combination of training and/or experience that will enable the applicant to possess the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  A general qualification guideline for this position is a Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Management or closely related natural resources field and/or related field experience.

 

 

Salary: $29,000 – $32,500 + Health Benefits and Retirement Package
