The Majority Staff of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee is seeking a legislative fellow to assist Committee staff with various ocean science and policy issues. Issues of focus will include management of fisheries and other marine living resources; weather, climate science; oil spill prevention, response, and restoration; marine sanctuaries; national ocean policy; and corresponding programs and offices within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Responsibilities will include coordination and design of oversight and legislative hearings; drafting of background memos for hearings and executive sessions; and development, review, and analysis of ocean legislation and NOAA budget. Ideal candidate will have: a graduate degree in marine science; strong writing and communication skills; knowledge of Congressional organization and functions; and ability to work in collaborative environment. This is an unpaid fellowship. Full-time preferred (willing to oversee work for academic course credit), but part-time considered with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week.
