Resource Conservation Districts (RCD) manage a diversity of resource conservation projects, including soil and water conservation projects, wildlife habitat enhancement and restoration, control of exotic plant species, watershed restoration, conservation planning, education, and many others. General Responsibilities
In consultation with management and other District staff, the Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and assisting with programs and projects related to watershed education and stewardship with students and adults, developing and maintaining good working relationships with numerous Sonoma County watershed stakeholder organizations, developing and maintaining good working relationships with the representatives of local resource agencies, and representing the District at public events, meetings and functions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Coordinating and presenting the RCD’s Environmental and Agricultural Education Programs for students and adults in a variety of public settings throughout Sonoma County;
Assist with the coordination and facilitation of RCD field tours, outings, and workshops.
Develop and manage education/outreach/volunteer projects, including associated budgets and deliverables.
Prepare project reports and ensure compliance with grant/contract requirements.
Identify funding sources and prepare grant proposals.
Interfacing with the RCD’s public relations and marketing staff to implement the annual outreach and events calendar.
Assist with updating the RCD website and the RCD Facebook page
Assistance in the creation and dissemination of newsletters, flyers, brochures, and press information.

Desired Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience engaging and collaborating with diverse groups and stakeholders, including students of all ages, landowners, non-profit agencies, resource agencies, and the general public.
Familiarity with the geography, ecology and environmental issues of concern in Sonoma County.
Knowledge of environmental education programs for elementary and secondary students and general public.
Supervisory and training skills for the express purpose of training staff and interns to present programs to schools.
Knowledge of writing and editing to utilize in the development of programs.
Experience working with youth in outdoor setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Photoshop and Adobe design software.
Experience researching, writing, and designing outreach pieces.
Experience working under, writing and/or managing grants.
Must possess creativity to plan and carry out new events, workshops, outreach efforts, etc.
Project management/organizational skills, including contract and budget compliance.
Public relations skills, ability to communicate before groups, present on RCD program and write effectively.
Bachelor’s Degree in education and/or an environmentally related field is preferred. Three years minimum experience any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for the Education Coordinator position.
Salary
The position of Conservation Educator is a non-exempt position, 32 hours a week. Salary commensurate with experience.
