(SRSC) provides natural resource management services for the Sauk-Suiattle Indian Tribe and the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.
Chartered by these two Tribal Nations, SRSC works to actively protect and restore
natural resources throughout traditional homelands within the Skagit River basin.
SRSC has a long history of identifying, designing, and implementing projects that strive
to recover freshwater and estuarine habitat for salmonids. The Restoration program’s
guiding philosophy is focused first on protecting existing functioning ecosystem
processes, and second on recovering landscape processes that are not functioning within
an expected natural range of variation. On-the-ground projects have included such
activities as riparian planting, dike removal and setbacks, road decommissioning, or
culvert and bridge replacement.
SRSC seeks a summer intern to assist organizing, compiling and editing recovery plan
documents for Skagit salmon restoration and recovery efforts. In this capacity, the intern
will be expected to spend a large portion of their time researching, organizing, cataloging,
and summarizing archival materials and literature appropriate to Skagit salmonid
recovery and restoration. The position is largely office-based, although there will be some
opportunities to assist in the field. The intern might assist in a variety of tasks that include
monitoring and survey of restoration sites, preparing maps and working with geospatial
data, electro-fishing and fish exclusion, site maintenance, vegetation management and
noxious weed control.
