Non- permanent Fish and Wildlife Biologist 1 position located in the Wildlife Program, Game Division. The duty station is the LaConner District Office.
JOB SUMMARY
As a non permanent position within the Game Division, implements the approved Snow Goose Telemetry Project during October 2012 – May 2013.
DUTIES:
Following established procedures, conducts focused studies on Wrangel Island snow geese:
· Under the direction of higher level biologists, collects data following the study design for the WDFW Snow Goose Telemetry Project during October 2012 – May 2013.
· Collects data on snow goose population distribution, age structure, demography, habitat use, harvest patterns, and movements.
Following established procedures, conducts analyses of Wrangel Island snow goose data collected during project activities:
· Under the direction of higher level biologists, maps, summarizes, and reports on data collected during field work associated with the WDFW Snow Goose Telemetry Project during October 2012- May 2013.
· Analyzes data using established computer software analysis programs and statistical procedures developed for the project by the project design committee.
· Writes reports summarizing project findings and analyses.
Other duties as assigned
The successful candidate must be willing and able to:
· Perform aerial and boat surveys.
· Work in inclement weather over difficult terrain, including slippery rocks, steep banks, and sticky mud.
· Walk, bend, and stoop, while at times carrying up to 40 pounds.
· Load and transport equipment and gear.
· Use critical thinking in collecting, recording, compiling, and summarizing data.
· Follow oral and written directions.
· Visually discriminate when identifying and distinguishing biological and physical features.

UNION
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the State of Washington, Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE)/Washington Association of Fish and Wildlife Professionals (WAFWP), which contains a ―union security‖ provision. QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree in wildlife management, natural resource, or environmental science.
Knowledge of:
Data analysis principles and procedures.
Mathematical reasoning and understanding of statistical methods.
Advanced knowledge of specific species and habitat behaviors, characteristics and needs.
Researching and gathering information for scientific studies.
Advanced computer skills for modeling and forecasting.
Ability to:
Use standard field equipment.
Apply standard statistical techniques to analyze data.
Prepare detailed reports and communicate effectively.
Perform a variety of outdoor work in inclement weather.
Preferred
Direct experience with waterfowl field investigations and snow goose demographic studies.
