The Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) Program at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for an innovative, highly motivated full-time Lecturer in the area of General and Organic Chemistry. This position is a 3-year renewable appointment, and begins on September 16, 2012. The position requires a Masters degree or higher in chemistry, chemical education, environmental engineering, toxicology or a related field and experience teaching laboratory-based general and organic chemistry courses at the university/college level. The successful candidate will be committed to innovative undergraduate teaching, will develop and teach lecture and laboratory courses in introductory, general and organic chemistry, and may contribute to other courses of study as appropriate. The successful candidate will become an integral member of a dynamic, interdisciplinary faculty and staff committed to excellence and innovation in teaching. Our students work in small classes with instructors active in a broad range of natural science and mathematics disciplines. Through lecture, lab and field classes, students get hands-on experience with chemistry, biology, the geosciences, physics and math. Students learn how to draw connections between these fields in order to solve complex, interdisciplinary environmental problems facing the local community and society at large. The Environmental Science and Studies degree programs are embedded within the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Program. This structure allows our students to synthesize diverse approaches to environmental issues within the context of the social sciences and humanities as well.
