The Tillamook Bay Watershed Council is seeking a Part-time Native Plant Coordinator for the Northwest Oregon Restoration Partnership (NORP). The NORP is made up of over 30 agencies and non-profit organizations throughout seven counties in the northwest corner of Oregon. This position oversees the annual production and distribution of over 75,000 native trees and shrubs to partners for outplanting on 20-30 miles of riparian and wetland areas.

Position Description:

Title: Native Plant Coordinator

Employment: Part-time (average 30 hours/week)

Salary: $25/hour

Location: Tillamook, Oregon

This position requires working independently and as a team player to coordinate a volunteer organization.

Primary Duties include:

♦ Research funding opportunities and write grant proposals that support the NORP.

♦ Manage and /or provide support for variety of native plant nurseries.

♦ Coordinate and implement work plans to support activities at Camp Tillamook native plant nursery to ensure diverse cooperative tasks are completed: seed collection and sowing, potting of plants, and management of day to day activities. Arrange for the purchase of materials, manage work crews, and organize and lead partner volunteer days. Assist partners, as needed, at satellite nurseries. Maintain records of work plans and task implementation.

♦ Coordinate the propagation and distribution of over 75,000 native plants and native plant materials (both Oregon Coastal and Willamette Valley genotypes) to cooperative members for riparian and wetland restoration purposes. Collaborate closely with Partners to determine number of plants required each year.

♦ Coordinate educational opportunities for students, other coordinators, teachers, and volunteers on vegetative propagation, seed collection, extraction, storage, and sowing techniques for Native Plant species typically used for riparian and wetland restoration throughout the NW corner of Oregon.

Desired Qualifications

♦ Minimum of BA/BS degree in botany, biology, or closely related field.

♦ Experience working with watershed organizations.

♦ Proven ability to work with diverse partnerships and accomplish large scale projects.

♦ Background in Oregon Coastal native plants preferred.

♦ Working knowledge of seed collection, vegetative propagation, sowing, and transplanting native

plants.

♦ Excellent presentation, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

♦ Successful grant writing ability.

♦ Excellent organizational skills.

♦ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with volunteer groups and agencies.

♦ Ability to work independently, establish work priorities, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

♦ Ability to work variable hours, as needed to meet fluctuating seasonal demand for plant materials.

♦ Reliable personal transportation.

♦ Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

♦ Ability to pass a criminal/civil background check.

♦ Ability to lift 40 pounds.

Working Conditions

The Native Plant Coordinator’s work involves office, greenhouse, and outdoor work. Office work includes: report and grant writing, records maintenance, and communicating with partners. Attendance at both day and evening meetings is required. Occasional overnight travel will be required to represent the NORP and its interests at various seminars and conferences. The Native Plant Coordinator must provide his/her own transportation; mileage and lodging will be reimbursed.

♦ The Native Plant Coordinator is an employee of the Tillamook Bay Watershed Council.

♦ Policy, program, and activity direction is provided by the Tillamook Bay Watershed Council.

♦ The Executive Director of the Tillamook Bay Watershed Council will oversee this position. The Executive Director will meet with the Native Plant Coordinator regularly to review work and supply assistance as needed. Job performance evaluations will be conducted annually at the anniversary of the hiring date.
