The Gallatin National Forest is currently seeking candidates for one temporary position as Biological Technician (Plants), GS-0499-03/04/05.

 

About the Position(s):  This position will work as a member of the Gallatin National Forest Integrated Riparian Inventory and Monitoring Team.  Applicants must be a current undergraduate student in good academic standing who will be attending college as an undergraduate or graduate student in the fall of 2013.  The position will be based out of the Bozeman Ranger District. Government housing may be available. Successful applicants will have the following:

  • At least one plant taxonomy course
  • Experience identifying plants using dichotomous keys (such as the Flora of the Pacific Northwest, by Hitchcock and Cronquist)
  • Field experience / course work collecting vegetation data and/or identifying grasses, sedges, woody plants, rangeland plants, etc.
  • Outdoor / field experience (job requires camping for extended periods of time)
  • An excellent attitude and a willingness to learn

The ideal candidate will also have technical experience with GPS, GIS, and other related software.

 

The anticipated start date for this position is early June; the end date is late August or September dependent on funding and work availability.
