The Clackamas River Basin Council (CRBC) is accepting applications for an Environmental Outreach & Engagement Professional.  This is a full-time, exempt position.  CRBC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, working to foster partnerships for clean water and to improve fish and wildlife habitat and the quality of life for those who live, work and recreate in the Clackamas River Basin. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary duties of the position are to further the Council’s mission by engaging the public in streamside restoration, education, and volunteer activities.  The successful candidate will:

·   Engage streamside landowners and volunteers in programs that enhance our river, streams and riparian forest while increasing awareness toward the benefits of a healthy watershed.

·   Continue successful recruitment of streamside property owners for tributary shading program.

·   Plan and implement outreach activities to citizens, businesses, local schools, government agencies and community groups.

·   Plan and coordinate special events such as riparian work party events and solicit volunteer and community member involvement in events, projects, and meetings.

·   Provide technical assistance in support of watershed planning, sustainable development, and stream restoration projects.

·   Facilitate partnerships with agencies, landowners, school programs and community groups to implement Council priority projects.

·   Plan and implement public information campaigns regarding Council activities.

·   Assist in maintaining Council web site, electronic publication and photo libraries, and produce Council newsletter twice annually.

·   Attend Council and CRBC Executive Committee meetings.

·   Assist with grant writing, database management, and project tracking.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·      Experience in community outreach with a preference for experience in watershed or natural resources education or planning. 3 years or more preferred.

·      Preference for 4-year degree related to environmental science, education, or communication.

·      Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

·      Computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Suite, PageMaker, web site development and web site maintenance program and experience with ArcView GIS desired.

·      Previous experience with non-profit groups especially watershed councils desired.

·      Knowledge of riparian restoration processes and Pacific Northwest ecology desired.

·      Volunteer coordination experience.

·      Self-directed and organized professional.

·      Applicants must have a valid driver’s license recognized by Oregon or Washington and a reliable motor vehicle.

·      Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The work involves a multiple task and teamwork approach supervised by the Executive Director.  It includes both office and community-based activities.  Work requires attendance at evening meetings and community events on some evenings and weekends. CRBC offices are located in a beautiful historic building in Gladstone, Oregon, just minutes from the confluence of the Clackamas at the Willamette River, and less than 15 miles from downtown Portland.

COMPENSATION:

Compensation:  $35,000 – $45,000, dependent on experience. Compensation package includes employee health insurance.
