The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is a leading nonprofit organization working to strengthen the organic industry.  OMRI operates an internationally recognized evaluation program that reviews and lists inputs products for use in producing, processing, and handling organic foods and fiber.  OMRI Listed® products are deemed appropriate to be used in operations that are certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program.

Overview of Position

 

We are looking to fill a key position on our team.  The Application Specialist will be responsible for providing superior customer service and detailed information about standards, policies, and requirements to potential applicants ensuring complete application submissions to OMRI.  The Application Specialist reports to Review Program Administrative Manager.  Qualified candidates will have background in organic food or agriculture and project coordination.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Provide superior customer service for applicants and potential applicants to the OMRI Review Program
  • Provide applicants and potential applicants detailed information about the OMRI Review Program including the published standards, policies, and requirements.
  • Assist applicants and suppliers with correctly and completely submitting their applications for eligible products for the OMRI Review Program
  • Follow up with suppliers to ensure completion of application packets.
  • Develop training materials, webinars, and curriculum for new applicants and potential applicants.
  • Along with other staff, conduct applicant training sessions online and in-person.
  • Develop application and review materials, including forms, checklists, and certain letters.
  • With RPAM, research and execute strategies to increase complete applications and find efficiencies in the application process.
  • Develop content for certain parts of the website including FAQs, Product Supplier Menus and Applicant Menu.
  • Support the Review Program by providing general administrative help, including special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Education and formal training

  • Bachelors degree in agricultural science, chemistry, environmental science, food science, or related field preferred

Experience

  • Two years experience working in an office environment, with customer service experience preferred.
  • One year in organic food or agriculture preferred.
  • One year project coordination experience.

Skills

  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Fluency with standard office software (Word, Excel, Access, internet, and e-mail programs). Experience with InDesign desired.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and organize information.
  • Spanish language skills preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends, if required.
  • Ability to travel domestically.
  • An annual motor vehicle report and proof of auto insurance may be required.
