Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (FCRW) is an award-winning 501(c)3
organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the greater
Lake Washington/Cedar River/Sammamish Watershed. The watershed is home
to more than 83 species of fish and wildlife and 14 species of concern
such as sockeye salmon and the endangered Chinook salmon. It is also
home to 22% of Washington&#
home. Its future is ours.
Our roots are in the water. The 143 square miles of the protected upper
watershed provide clean drinking water to over one million King County
residents. It is unique—one of only six protected municipal
watersheds in the country and the only one owned by the people who
depend on it. FCRW began in 1996 with the charter to support the
construction of the Cedar River Watershed Education Center, and since
then has evolved to promote stewardship and education about the
importance of restoring the Lake Washington/Cedar River/Sammamish
Watershed.
Through innovative collaborations with municipalities, schools,
individuals, and businesses, we link local citizens to environmental
stewardship efforts including volunteer habitat restoration events,
salmon recovery efforts, and conservation and education programs in
order to preserve these finite resources for future generations.
Job Summary
The Outreach Manager contributes to the success of FCRW by implementing
community outreach efforts via publications management, public
communications, community organizing, and other awareness and education
activities. The Outreach Manager coordinates with program leads on the
development and implementation of fundraising materials, event
execution, volunteer recruitment, corporate relationships, and public
relations strategy. The Outreach Manager manages the organizational
press strategy and the production of outreach materials including print,
web, and social media. The Outreach Manager plays a major role in the
Stewardship In Action partnership and is accountable to grant
deliverables focused on landowner and public outreach in the lower Cedar
River basin. He or she is responsible for recruitment and maintenance of
a volunteer team that is trained to assist at organizational outreach
and fundraising events. He/she also assists with public relations. The
position is full time exempt with the expectation to work evenings and
weekends, as needed.
Duties
1. Lead creation and implementation of strategic outreach plans to
accomplish goals.
2. Represent FCRW to our real-world and online communities in an
enthusiastic, friendly, consistent, and professional manner.
3. Serve as project lead for Stewardship In Action outreach
activities, grant reporting, and deliverables. Communicate with partners
to ensure grant deliverables are met or exceeded.
4. Work with Program Mangers and Technology & Administrative
Coordinator to conceptualize and develop web content for all programs
with an emphasis on Stewardship In Action.
5. Maintain regular communications and work plans with Program
Mangers to address program materials development, mailings, outreach,
and support activities.
6. Lead business and partner relationship management and
recruitment.
7. Lead quarterly fundraising and friend-raising events.
8. Lead production of FCRW’s print and electronic newsletters
and annual reports.
9. Coordinate with Operations Manager and Technology &
Administrative Coordinator where program support intersects with
administrative responsibilities such as database protocol and
management.
10. Coordinate tabling and outreach efforts to represent FCRW to the
public. Coordinate with Program Managers to ensure that materials,
messaging, and public feedback are addressed at FCRW events.
11. Establish relationships with other conservation organization
outreach staff to help build our connection with the greater
sustainability community.
12. Assist in FCRW’s public relations strategy at the local and
state levels.
13. Coordinate event logistics and facilitate with appropriate FCRW
staff on materials preparation, event follow-up, donor recognition, and
other items needed for streamlined operation of events.
14. Recruit members for and serve on Communications and Outreach
Committees.
15. Serve as lead staff for web content and positioning. Work with
Technology & Administrative Coordinator on web edits and updates.
16. Manage and contribute to FCRW social networking tools—blog,
Facebook, Twitter.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Qualifications
· At least two years experience in environmental or
conservation programs, ideally in an external facing role
· Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, oral, and written
communication skills to a variety of diverse stakeholder groups and
populations
· Demonstrable event planning skills
· Ability to manage multiple demands
· Excellent organizational, event planning, and project
management skills
· A reliable, self-starter disposition and the ability to
work with minimal supervision
· A naturally friendly and accommodating personality
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Discretion while working with private client information
· Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
InDesign, and web-editing skills preferred
· Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
· Reliable transportation to travel throughout the Lake
Washington/Cedar River/Sammamish Watershed
Compensation & Benefits
The Outreach Manager is a full-time salaried position. Compensation and
benefits for the position include:
· Salary commensurate with experience (starting annual salary
range $35,000-$38,000)

PREFERRED CANDIDATES will have a working knowledge of King County’s
drinking water supply, watershed management issues such as salmon
recovery and stormwater, LID and sustainability program experience, and
a high level of comfort in a vigorous work environment.
