Tribal Environmental Office, Branch of Natural Resources, Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs

The Tribal Environmental Office is recruiting an Environmental Specialist to perform wetland and watershed planning duties. The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for 1) developing watershed assessments and subwatershed plans for reservation waters in a manner that is consistent with tribal plans and priorities for restoration and water quality improvement with input and support from public and other departments; 2) develop a Tribal Wetland Program Plan and develop a wetland monitoring and assessment plan and with strategy and protocols; 3) facilitate watershed meetings, compile draft documents, solicit others for information and data needed for assessment reports, and lead the watershed and wetland planning teams, and 4) Other duties as needed. REQUIREMENTS: locally relevant knowledge of watershed issues, restoration approaches, and assessment and planning methods, knowledge of wetland science and the ability to develop wetland program and monitoring assessment plans applicable to the reservation, excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team, demonstrated ability to effectively lead and coordinate an interdisciplinary project, ability to interpret data and technical information and communicate verbally and in written form to general public. Bachelors degree in Natural Resources/Environmental Science or other similar field related to hydrology, wetlands, watershed studies, soils, fisheries is required along with two years of directly related experience or a Masters Degree in related field. The position will involved some field work, requiring the ability to wade streams and walk in steep and rugged terrain in inclement weather while carrying equipment. Must have proficiency in computer programs, such as Microsoft Word and Excel and understanding of GIS-use in watershed and wetland planning. A valid Oregon Driver’s license is also required.This position in based in Warm Springs, Oregon. Salary Range is $36,000-$45,000/year.
