Environmental Scientist (Botany)
The Department of Water Resources will soon be filling a position for an Environmental Scientist with emphasis on botanical resources. If you are interested or know of someone who may interested in State employment, please pass this on.
This position will be located in our West Sacramento Office within the Division of Environmental Services, Environmental Compliance and Evaluation Branch. Our Branch includes botanists; avian, herpetology, and mammal experts; as well as other general biologists. We work with a wide array of species and habitats for environmental compliance and restoration activities.
For the Botany position, we are seeking someone with a good working knowledge of the California flora, who is comfortable keying with the Jepson Manual, and is familiar with vegetation community classification and wetland delineations. This position will involve field work centered mainly in and around the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta.
The Environmental Scientist classification is used to fill all of our biological background positions, and in this case an applicant needs to have a degree in a biological field (preferably with plant emphasis). As with most State jobs, applicants need to have taken and successfully passed an exam for the specific job classification they are interested in applying for. The Environmental Scientist Exam is an online exam that consists of a self-assessment of various experience and skills and must be taken and passed prior to the posting of the actual position.
