Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served.
This Senior Fisheries Biologist position is responsible for overseeing and implementing the Skagit Fisheries Settlement Agreement, which is part of the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project License with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. It is one of the more high profile fisheries science positions at City Light and as such, plays a unique role in guiding resource managers, decision makers, and project managers in matters of fish protection, endangered fish species recovery, and aquatic habitat restoration. This position works closely with City Light’s Power Management Division, resource agencies, and tribes to ensure that flows resulting from power generation at the Skagit Project fully protect downstream fisheries consistent with City Light’s environmental policy.
The position also plays a key role in the development, coordination, and implementation of anadromous fisheries research and habitat restoration projects within City Light and with the resource agencies and tribes. In addition, it is responsible for complying with the Skagit Project Biological Opinion for Chinook Salmon and Steelhead and represents City Light on regional planning efforts and fisheries management committees. In the future this position may have a significant role in obtaining a new operating license for the Skagit River Project.
This position will report to the Natural Resources & Environmental Planning Unit Manager in the Environmental Affairs and Real Estate Division.
Experience Required: At least 5 years in fisheries resource management, with 3 years in salmon research and management; and experience in routinely and safely operating a power boat in a large riverine system.
