Description
The Cornell Prison Education Program supports a regional collaboration that brings together Cornell faculty and graduate students to teach a college-level liberal arts curriculum to a select group of students at Auburn Correctional Facility and Cayuga Correctional Facility.  The Cornell Prison Education Program is dedicated to supporting incarcerated persons’ academic ambitions and preparation for successful re-entry. This position supports the activities of the Program Director. The position has direct responsibility for coordinating the delivery of the current programs and initiatives involving a wide range of administrative processes and functions and requiring communications with students, faculty, staff and prison administrators on matters relating to program delivery. The position will administer assigned program functions for 75 to 100 students at the Auburn Correctional Facility, including travel to the prison for on-site course registration and related functions. The individual will serve as the terminal degree registrar for incarcerated students, including maintaining student records and monitoring degree progress. The individual will provide support and input on evaluation of the program and its operation, with application to strategic planning. The position has responsibility for some program publicity and event planning for guest lectures, student orientation sessions, and graduation ceremonies.  The individual will manage budgets using university accounting systems and assist the Director in financial management of programs.

This is a two year term, 39 hour a week position that is benefit eligible. 

Qualifications
Associate’s degree and 1 to 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work quickly and effectively under pressure, use judgment in accomplishing tasks that are urgent or of a sensitive or confidential nature, and balance conflicting priorities.
  • Experience with computer applications – database systems, website maintenance and Microsoft Office Suite is required.  Must be highly proficient using databases and web management content tools.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to communicate with a broad range of people.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are critical.
  • Must be comfortable working with an incarcerated clientele.
  • Experience with financial management, accounting, event planning, and volunteer organizations. Highly proactive with demonstrated ability to anticipate business needs and respond accordingly.
  • Strong administrative skills with an ability to develop processes and procedures that improve service or increase program efficiency.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and be able to travel to prison locations.
  • Demonstrated history of reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • TB test required.
Preferred:
  • Interest in criminal justice system and experience working with an incarcerated clientele.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination.
  • Understanding of the University’s financial system.
  • Familiarity with student registration systems (e.g. Banner, PeopleSoft, etc.)
