The School of Anthropology and Conservation are seeking to appoint a Professor of/Reader in Human Ecology on an ongoing and full time basis starting Spring 2015.
The post holder will have an international research reputation and a recognised interest in human interaction with the environment, including human aspects of biodiversity conservation, local knowledge systems, social science approaches to landscape and spatial analysis.
In addition to developing an exciting research programme, the successful applicant will also be expected to undertake a fair share of teaching to support core modules in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the School.
The Person
You will have a doctorate or equivalent qualification in Human Ecology or allied discipline.
You will also have research experience in Human Ecology, with a strong publication record and experience of applying and being awarded research grant funding.
The ability to teach at a high standard at the UG level and the ability to supervise postgraduate and undergraduate research are essential to this role.

The Department
The School of Anthropology and Conservation is a multidisciplinary school integrating Social Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, and the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE). The School was ranked 6th in the 2013 National Student Survey for ‘Overall Student Satisfaction’ and ‘Teaching’, 6th in the Guardian University Guide 2014, as well as being judged ‘Excellent’ in the most recent Teaching Quality Assessment. In the 2008 RAE, 55% of DICE’s and 50% of Anthropology’s outputs were assessed to be world-leading or internationally excellent, attracting a 47% increase in the School’s QR research income. Other current funding sources include UK Research Councils (ESRC and NERC), European Research Council, Darwin Initiative, conservation NGOs and the Leverhulme Trust.
