JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a full-time post-doctoral researcher to evaluate and quantify habitat in conservation subdivisions in southeastern Wisconsin using GIS- and landscape metrics-based spatial analysis, supplemented with field visits. The researcher will help a multi-disciplinary research team evaluate and quantify variables important to wildlife habitats and conduct analysis within each subdivision and the subdivision common open spaces (COS). The analysis will include an assessment of the composition as well as spatial configuration of COS, different land covers, soil types, and wildlife habitat characteristics such as availability of water, food, and shelter.
The researcher will also help the research team obtain additional funding and prepare manuscripts and outreach material.
This position is offered through the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning in collaboration with the Departments of Forest and Wildlife Ecology, Landscape Architecture, and Soil Sciences, and the Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Completed Ph.D., with at least 1 degree in natural sciences. Preference given if degree or experience in ecology field can be demonstrated.
• Proficient in ArcGIS.
• Experience with landscape quantification methods.
• Experience with grant writing.
• Evidence of strong writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and with a scientific team.
SALARY
This is a salaried position and is available immediately. There is 1 year guaranteed funding, with extension of position pending additional funding. The researcher will receive a salary of $33,000 and benefits.
