WDFW is dedicated to protecting native fish and wildlife, and providing sustainable fishing,
hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities for millions of residents and visitors. Working
throughout the state, WDFW’s employees–field biologists, enforcement officers, land stewards,
lab technicians, customer service representatives and others—manage hundreds of fish and
wildlife species, maintain nearly a million acres of public wildlife lands, provide opportunities for
recreational and commercial fishing, wildlife viewing and hunting, protect and restore habitat
and enforce laws that protect fish and wildlife resources. Learn more about us at

This recruitment is to fill one (1) part-time, non-permanent internship position within the
Technology and Financial Management Program, Financial Services Division located at the
Natural Resources Building, Olympia, Thurston County, WA.
JOB SUMMARY
Financial Services provides the core business and financial activities that allows WDFW to operate and ensures the Agency’s financial stability. Financial Services provides overall Agency direction, guidance and management for fiscal related activities in a complex accounting and financial management environment. Financial Services maintains and operates WDFW’s financial systems to ensure compliance with all state and federal accounting rules and regulations.
An Administrative Intern 2 performs entry-level technical administrative work under immediate supervision on a part-time basis while pursuing an undergraduate degree (or may be a graduate within last 6 months); undergoes training in the techniques used in public sector administrative research, analysis, and reporting; and assists experienced fiscal staff members in such fields as general accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and financial analysis.
DUTIES:
General Office Support
Responsible for filing all payment batches, journal vouchers, cash journals and inventory records daily.
Answers phones and emails; routes calls and messages
Responds to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment.
Scanning and copying.
May assist with accepting and sorting mail.
Prepares mailings as necessary.
Assists with office organization and surplus.
Maintains a clean and organized office space.
Operates standard office equipment.
Data Entry
Enters, updates, and retrieves data using established programs and software.
Ensures accurate data entry of payment document details into the financial toolbox template. Uploads into Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS).
Verification – Closeout Batches
Compares data entered with source documents, or re-enters data in verification format on screen to detect errors.
Audits AFRS transactions after they have been processed through AFRS to ensure accuracy.
Deletes incorrectly entered data, and re-enters correct data.
Cross-referencing documents
Cross references memo requests as processed by General Accounting Staff. This includes locating original document and transaction, making notes of what was changed, along with journal voucher and initials.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is 20 hours per week; flexible work schedule during core business hours.
Anticipated start date is November 1, 2014 (or sooner)
Anticipated end date is February 27, 2015 (subject to funding)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
Possess OR in the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, accounting, finance, auditing, or budgeting from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of: Modern office practices, equipment, and software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), proper grammatical construction, sentence and paragraph development and basic mathematics.
Ability to: follow directions, read, understand, interpret and apply policies and procedures, work with others, conduct research, work accurately with attention to detail, compile meaningful written reports and speak effectively.
