The City of Portland Bureau of Parks & Recreation is seeking a Central Services Manager. The Central Services Manager is a key leadership position that oversees the team and program for the maintenance of Bureau assets. Central Services is an internal customer service provider for major repairs, maintenance and improvements for a diverse portfolio of assets (such as playgrounds, turf, bridges and buildings) within a large, urban parks and recreation system. To be effective, the Manager must have the ability to lead decision-making on improvement and repair projects for a large system of assets and provide necessary leadership and coordination to help institutionalize the Bureau’s new approach to total asset management. The Central Services Manager helps prepare and actively manage an estimated $10 million dollar annual budget.
The selected candidate will manage three supervisors overseeing approximately 80 represented staff in the skilled trades, heavy equipment, maintenance, and administrative areas. The incumbent must have strong people management skills to create a cohesive, high performance team with a service-oriented work ethic. They must also be skilled in promoting workplace diversity and creating an inclusive and positive work environment. This position requires communication and collaboration with a broad range of disciplines at various levels within the organization, from Parks senior management to front-line staff.
