Northwest SEED, a nonprofit organization that empowers community scale clean energy, is in search of a Development Manager that will create and execute fundraising strategies to excite individuals and institutions about our work. Supporting Northwest SEED’s growth, the Development Manager conducts a range of fundraising activities, including research, grant writing, and donor management. This position reports to the Executive Director and works closely with administrative and program staff, as well as the Board. This position is based in Seattle, WA, starting at .75FTE. For the right candidate, this position offers opportunities for increased responsibility and professional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Fundraising

  • Develop annual fundraising plan and implement strategies to meet organizational growth targets.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors, including foundations, individual & major donors, and selected corporate donors.
  • Research funding opportunities and write grant proposals for general operating funds.
  • Manage and track gift processing, acknowledgements and donor follow-up.
  • Work closely with the Fundraising Committee to support board-led fundraising activities. Lead monthly meetings and attend quarterly board meetings as requested.
  • Provide support and logistical coordination to engage board members in fundraising activities and events.
  • Attend quarterly Earth Share Washington meetings and lead combined workplace giving efforts and reporting.
  • Work closely with the Program Director to support program-related proposals and RFPs.

Outreach and Communications

  • Develop, coordinate, and support key partnerships in target communities.
  • Represent Northwest SEED at networking and outreach events.
  • Create strategies for and implement Northwest SEED’s social media presence and on-line engagement.
  • Maintain and update Northwest SEED marketing materials and website.
  • Manage Northwest SEED’s e-communications, such as newsletters and program updates.

Organization Support

  • Participate in developing organizational goals and strategic plans.
  • Support internal operations of the organization as needed.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced development professional with a passion and enthusiasm for increasing Northwest SEED’s support and reach to advance our mission.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years’ experience in non-profit donor solicitation, cultivation, and management.
  • Strong background in foundation fundraising and demonstrated success developing grant proposals.
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and compelling way.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to be a team leader and effectively communicate with staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet frequent and multiple deadlines.
  • Self-motivated—proven ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and social media; familiarity with Salesforce and VerticalResponse and experience with InDesign and Plone (or other web design software) a plus.
  • Strong commitment to energy and sustainability issues. Understanding of clean energy technologies and their applications a plus.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

This position starts at .75FTE with a salary in the low to mid $40s, commensurate with experience. Generous benefits including health, dental, paid leave, retirement plan, professional development allowance and public transit subsidy. Position may increase to full-time contingent on organizational need and funding.
