Position Summary

The Hatfield Marine Science Center is a museum/aquarium open to the public. It is through this facility that many of the Sea Grant marine education programs are delivered. A wide variety of workshops, field trips, and short courses are offered for the public, school teachers, K-12 students, and other youth groups.  The Marine Education Intern presents marine science labs and programs for the K-12 school audience, other youth and family groups. This position carries out and assists with a variety of field trips, labs, youth programs and provides other education assistance as needed.

 

Position Duties

–          60% Preparation and presentation of laboratory and field programs for school groups, other youth groups, and families as needed.

–          25% Cleaning and maintenance of labs and equipment associated with education programs.

–          10% Special projects and program development.

–          5% Attend staff meetings, trainings and workshops.

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications

–          Experience working with children and marine or biological science background/coursework.

–          This position may be designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; if so, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

–          This position may require driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; if so, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OAR 576-056-0000 et seq.
