Job Description

The City of Sisters is accepting applications for the position of Community Development Director.

Duties include organizing, supervising and administering all activities of the Community Development Department; supporting the Planning Commission, Urban Forestry Board, City Parks Advisory Board, Deschutes County Historical Landmarks Commission and City Council. Performs professional and managerial work requiring advanced knowledge of the principles of urban planning, land use and community development. Develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures to administer city plans, ordinances and codes related to planning and zoning, land development, design review, code enforcement, weed abatement, historic preservation, community development, economic development and urban renewal. Coordinates with the Public Works Director on planning and development of public facilities and infrastructure. Researches and applies for community development grant of various types.

A bachelor’s degree in urban planning or a related field, plus five years of progressively responsible municipal planning experience is required. Supervisory experience and/or AICP is desired but not mandatory. Private sector planning experience with a public sector client base will be considered. Experience with specialty-theme is desired. Compensation starts at $5,043.90/month depending on experience plus benefits.
