Extractions Technician (Laboratory Technician 2)

Are you experienced in laboratory settings in providing quality services that accurately determine the various contaminants found in air, water and soils? Many of Ecology‘s regulatory decisions are based on the data provided by laboratory services, with this position serving as an integral part of our laboratory services.

The Ecology section at Manchester Environmental Laboratory (MEL) in Port Orchard, Washington currently employs 27 scientists and support staff. The lab offers a wide range of chemical and microbiological analyses, analytical method development, and other technical services ranging from project information management to logistical support for sampling events. Manchester’s staff are committed to continuous process improvement.

Job duties for the Extractions Technician (Laboratory Technician 2) include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the extraction of soil, water and tissue samples to ensure samples are extracted within hold-times following established laboratory SOPs.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory glassware and extraction equipment.
  • Properly document extraction procedures in laboratory notebooks.
  • Perform required QA checks to include verifying balances and recording refrigerator temperatures.

Please Note: This is a project position that is funded until December 31, 2015, with a possibility for extension.

This position will remain open until filled. The initial screening will be February 27, 2015. Required Qualifications

If selected for the position, a condition of employment is successfully passing the Environmental Protection Agency ePASS background check which will allow you access to the federal facility that houses the Ecology laboratory.

Required Education

An Associate Degree from an accredited lab tech program requiring course work in chemistry and biology.

OR

Two years of chemical or related laboratory experience including one year at the Lab Tech 1 or higher.

NOTE: College education involving major study in a laboratory science may be substituted, year for year, for the required general experience.
