Social Engagement Coordinator

Washington DC

Food & Water Watch is a leading national advocacy organization that runs dynamic, cutting edge campaigns challenging the corporate control and abuse of our food and water resources. We work on a wide range of issues impacting our food, water, and common resources. Our top organizing priorities are our campaigns to ban fracking, stop the misuse of antibiotics on factory farms, label genetically engineered foods, and prevent water privatization.

We are currently seeking a digital communicator to make our social media a powerful channel for supporting our campaigns and other work. The Social Engagement Specialist will help Food & Water Watch take full advantage of the opportunities offered by online channels, particularly social media, to reach new audiences and cultivate stronger relationships with our supporters, activists, and donors. They will monitor and contribute to the conversation around our issues and organization, engage in one-on-one conversations with supporters, respond rapidly to breaking news, and create engaging, goal-oriented digital content that is optimized for social media. Above all, they will help mobilize our base on digital channels to take action, donate, and ultimately help win campaigns. This position reports to the Digital Program Director and will be based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

Plan and implement social media strategies to grow our supporter base, mobilize our current supporters, and influence key audiences to win our campaigns for clean water and safe food.

Work with teams throughout the organization to understand programmatic needs, and create and post creative, engaging, goal-oriented content to our organizational social media accounts—including shareable images, blogs, videos, podcasts and other digital media.

Work with the Digital Program Director in developing Food & Water Watch’s social media strategy and ensure that we are using social media strategically to achieve our goals.

Represent Food & Water Watch on social media by monitoring and responding to comments and questions from supporters, press, and other individuals or organizations talking about us and/or our issues.

Build relationships with online influencers with the goal of expanding Food & Water Watch’s reach.

Track and analyze the performance of our content to identify trends, opportunities, and lessons learned. Run A/B tests to optimize our content and refine our understanding of what works.

Plan, test and implement supporter engagement strategies on additional social networks like Pinterest, Instagram and others.

Develop systems to segment, target, and communicate with our supporters in an integrated way across all communications channels, including managing online advertising campaigns.

Identify relevant, engaging content from other sources to share on our networks.

Stay informed about new developments and emerging best practices in social media, and experiment strategically with new features and tools. Share best practices internally on how to use social channels for our work.

Support other communications team activities, such as writing for our blog, taking photos at events, helping with rapid response for local and national campaigns, and other responsibilities as needed.

Commitment to Food & Water Watch’s mission of safe food and clean water for all.

Exceptional writing skills and experience writing within an organizational style guide.

Strong customer service-oriented communications skills and ability to converse and build relationships with supporters while remaining professional and on-message.

Experience responding to critical posts on behalf of an organization, in coordination with other relevant staff.
