Nisqually Land Trust Habitat Restoration and Land Management Internship Opportunity Application Deadline: At Least 6 Weeks Before Target Start Date For Internship
Introduction: The Nisqually Land Trust was established in 1989 to acquire and manage critical lands to permanently protect water resources, wildlife, natural areas, and scenic vistas in the Nisqually River watershed. Today the Land Trust manages over 4,600 acres. Stewardship activities on these properties include monitoring, maintenance, and habitat restoration. The Nisqually Land Trust is seeking unpaid interns to assist with these activities.
Duties: Interns will work with Land Trust staff on a wide range of land management tasks, including:
Habitat restoration activities throughout the Nisqually watershed;
Site monitoring and reporting;
Installation of signs, fence, and gates;
Habitat maintenance activities, including invasive species control. Interns may also select an independent project related to the Land Trust’s habitat restoration and stewardship activities.
Schedule: Time commitment: a minimum of 8 hours a week; maximum of 40 hours a week.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: This position seeks a university student enrolled in a natural sciences program or related field. Other requirements include the following:
Intern should be available at least one full weekday each week.
Service oriented attitude and constructive problem solving skills.
Valid driver’s license, insurance and a reliable personal vehicle.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to work outside in inclement and/or hot weather.
Ability to work safely near fast moving water.
Must not have severe allergies to expected environmental factors. This includes sun, pollen, biting/stinging insects, or other chronic environmentally induced ailments.
Ability to provide appropriate field gear for project.
