Research Intern
Spring – Summer 2015

The Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council (ERFC) promotes state government financial stability by producing an accurate forecast of economic activity and General Fund revenue for the legislature and the governor to be used as the basis of the state budget.

The internship will start on June 1, 2015 and end approximately September 15, 2015. The start and end dates can be flexible.

This is a paid internship. The wage is $10/hour. The workload is 15-20 hours per week.

This position is required to report to the ERFC office in Olympia.

Duties:
The Research Intern assists Forecast Council staff in a variety of special tasks and projects. The Intern will work on the annual Washington State Climate Study, identify new sources of data and update a workbook of the data. The Intern will gather, verify, display and analyze data from a variety of sources, primarily the Internet. Additional projects that relate to the State’s economic and revenue forecast will be assigned as time allows during the internship.
Qualifications:
Interested applicants must have:

  • A sophomore standing by the end of the spring quarter;
  • A major field of study in economics or a related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency working with the Internet and Microsoft Word.
  • Skilled with the use spreadsheet software, such as Microsoft Excel, to create and manipulate large or complex spreadsheets, use complex mathematical formulas to calculate data, and link worksheets.   Also the ability to import data from other sources, filter lists, and create and format charts and graphs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team is essential.

An applicant hired in this position will have the opportunity to work with a small professional staff at the Washington State Economic & Revenue Forecast Council. This position gives the student a chance to combine several skills (internet searches, spreadsheet and other computer graphic capability, and economic analysis) in support of the Economic and Revenue Forecast Council staff.
