SUMMER INTERN (PAID, TEMPORARY)
Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center, Opal Creek Wilderness Area, Oregon
Closes: Friday, May 8, 2015

Work year: Seasonal: June 15 to August 31

Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center is seeking a dynamic intern for our 2015 summer programming sessions. Opal Creek is a magnificent 35,000-acre ancient forest on the western slopes of the Cascade Range in Oregon. This spectacular area achieved federal protection from logging after a very long and nationwide struggle.

In this setting the summer intern (along with our science instructors) is responsible for enthusiastically teaching best practices and safe backcountry camping skills to Opal Creek Expedition participants, ranging in age from 10-18 years old, and assisting in all aspects of our cabin rental services. The summer intern must have experience with backcountry camping, leave no trace practices, and working with youth. The summer intern is also responsible for providing excellent customer service to our cabin renters, maintain and clean our rental cabins, and generally be a positive, responsible member of our community.

We have a small staff and everyone is required to help in all aspects of running a residential field science program that includes workshops, Expeditions, Outdoor School and cabin rentals-tasks include cleaning cabins, driving gear shuttles, helping in the kitchen, facility assistance, etc.

We run our programs from the old mining town of Jawbone Flats, an off grid community three miles inside of the Opal Creek wilderness Area. This is a residential position, and staff will live at Jawbone Flats when not in the back country.

Compensation: $200/week, plus housing, utilities and partial board.
