Job Summary:

Do you have skills and knowledge to work with underserved communities that may suffer from disparate health impacts? Do you enjoy partnering with staff, community members and stakeholders for the purpose of achieving common goals? If this sounds like you, join our Environmental Health Division as Program Manager focused on community engagement and health equity.  This is a Regular, Part-time (.80) position.

Some of what you’ll do:

  • Reach out to local communities to engage them in shaping program goals and implementing programs and projects to better serve them.
  • Provide leadership and direction to multi-disciplinary program staff.
  • Supervise a small group of staff responsible for community engagement, outreach and education around environmental health issues.
  • Work with staff and community stakeholders to address health equity challenges.
  • Engage in strategic planning at the program, divisional and departmental levels.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and provide content for communications related to program work.

What you bring to the table:
  • Knowledge of environmental health topics and the ability to apply understanding of disparate health impacts on ethnic groups and low-income communities.
  • Knowledge of and skill in providing effective leadership, direction and supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population of managers, staff, clients and community based agencies.
  • Skill in designing and implementing participatory-based community outreach and engagement activities.
  • Skill in planning, organizing and managing program or project activities to meet established objectives.
 
Who should apply:
Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree and five years experience in a related health field, business management or public administration, or the equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of work.

Experience in community outreach and engagement are highly desirable.

Required Certifications and Licensure

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract is required prior to employment.
 
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Work Setting

·         Work is performed almost exclusively indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in government office environments.

·         The potential for dealing with dissatisfied or angry customers exists, requiring skills in conflict resolution.

·         Work is stressful due to the nature of the job.

This position is not eligible for overtime pay. Work may require a flexible schedule to allow for evening and weekend meetings with community members.

Tools and Equipment

 

 

·         Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.)

Travel

Driving a vehicle requiring a license.

·         Some travel is required, and is typically local or regional, to meet with clients, conduct business, or attend or provide training.
Participate in the Department’s Emergency response when activated, based upon your abilities and the physical demands of the role.
