Internationally known environmentalist, academic and broadcaster David Suzuki will be the Keynote Speaker at this year’s Ecological Economics conference, “Pathways for Change: Towards a Just and Sustainable Economy,“ in Vancouver, British Columbia, October 1-4, 2015. CANUSSEE 2015 is a biannual event, jointly organized by the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics (CANSEE) and the U.S. Society for Ecological Economics (USSEE). This exciting conference will feature presentations and lectures from prominent academic scholars as well as leaders in business, corporate and non-profit sectors whose experience highlights the current efforts to create a more sustainable environment and economy in the face of today’s constantly changing face of business. The event is open to the public. - Dr. Peter Victor, founding president of the Canadian Society of Ecological Economics, Molson Prize recipient and author of “Managing without Growth. Slower by Design, not Disaster.”
- Dr. Stephen Quilley, Director of Development for the Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI) and core faculty for the Waterloo Institute for Social Innovation and Resilience (WISIR).
- Dr. Nancy Olewiler, Professor in the School of Public Policy at Simon Fraser University, commissioner on Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission, member of the National Statistics Council and Chair of Canada’s Macroeconomic Accounts Advisory Committee.
- Dr Rees is a long-term member of the Global Ecological Integrity Group, a Fellow of the Post-Carbon Institute, a founding member and past President of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics and founding Director of the OneEarth Initiative.
- Dr. Peter Brown, Research Scholar at the Center for Humans and Nature in New York, and founder of the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy, as well as the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland. Currently a professor at McGill University.
- Dr. Jon Erickson, Emmy Award winning producer, author and Professor of Ecological Economics and the Interim Dean of the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources at the University of Vermont.
- Carol Anne Hilton, MBA is the CEO of Transformation an award winning Social and Economic development company. Carol Anne is a recognized leading First Nation’s business entrepreneur with a Masters Degree in Business Management from the University of Hertfordshire, England. Carol Anne is from the Nuu chah nulth Nation.
- Mark Anielski is an expert in measuring the sustainable well-being of communities, having developed the Genuine Wealth model and Genuine Progress Indicators (GPI) as new well-being evaluation tools. He is also recognized as one of the world’s experts in valuing nature’s capital in national income accounts and greening the GDP of nations.
- Peter Timmerman is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University Toronto. His main areas of research currently include environmental philosophy and ethics, with special reference to topics such as nuclear waste management, climate change, and ecological economics.
