Position Description:
Hanford Challenge is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to transform the Hanford Nuclear Site into a model of safe and effective cleanup. As Outreach Coordinator, you will build relationships inside and outside the organization and work in collaboration with stakeholders and advocacy groups on policy issues; recruit involvement from and conduct outreach with professors, students, and young people in Washington and Oregon; build and maintain web-based networks; develop and distribute educational materials; plan and coordinate community-building events; provide commentary on proposed health, safety, and environmental protection policy reforms; and support Hanford Challenge’s work.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- 2-5 years of relevant experience.
- Previous knowledge of the Hanford Site is desired.
- Experience working with youth and young adults is highly desired.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Fulfill Public Participation Grant work scope, including:
- Grant reporting.
- Supervising volunteers/interns.
- Attending regular meetings in the Tri-Cities in order to learn about issues, distill and distribute cleanup information, and build relationships.
- Representing the organization on the Hanford Advisory Board.
- Coordinating events, facilitating student projects.
- Maintaining Inheriting Hanford website, blog, email.
- Fostering collaborative relationships.
- Tracking media contacts and Hanford-related articles.
- Creating and assisting with Hanford-related publications and educational materials.
- Daily social media posting.
- Updating website with news, information, and events.
- Maintaining and updating Inheriting Hanford website.
- Inheriting Hanford bi-monthly blog posts.
Participate in Hanford Challenge Policy Work, including:
- Staff and strategy-related meetings.
- Issue-related research.
- Staying abreast of Hanford Challenge activities, priorities, and strategies, and working as a team with other staff members.
Assist with Hanford Challenge Development Work, including:
- Assisting with fundraising events as necessary.
- Grant writing when necessary.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- MS Office Applications, desktop publishing, database and spreadsheet software.
- Social Media posting and tracking via Facebook and Twitter.
- WordPress.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the presence, credibility and skills to develop and sustain a broad range of relationships; highly developed listening skills.
- Ability to thrive when working under deadlines.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously without sacrificing attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare and present information to various groups.
- Ability to travel to Eastern Washington for 2-3 nights monthly/bi-monthly.
- Access to a vehicle for work-related travel. Mileage reimbursed at state rate. Must have valid Washington State driver’s license.
