About Tahoma Audubon:
Tahoma Audubon Society is a grassroots conservation and environmental education organization founded in 1969 and based in University Place, Washington. It is an independent chapter of National Audubon Society, partner with Audubon Washington, and serves Pierce County. Tahoma Audubon operates the Adriana Hess Audubon Center (where the office is located) in a public park in University Place, partners with the Tacoma Nature Center on environmental education, and provides programming at Morse Wildlife Preserve in rural Graham. With an annual operating budget of $250-350,000 per year, two full-time staff positions, and part-time contractors, Tahoma Audubon mobilizes members, volunteers, and the broader community to implement its conservation policy and advocacy priorities, and conducts experiential learning programs in local parks, the Audubon Center, and the Morse Wildlife Preserve, engaging adults, seniors, and families to foster life-long learning and nature appreciation.
The mission of Tahoma Audubon Society is to connect people with birds, other wildlife, and their habitats through education, conservation, and recreation.
Position Summary:
- Development: Coordinate all aspects of individual giving campaigns including, but not limited to, spring Birdathon and fall Annual Appeal, to meet budget goals.
- Membership: Coordinate membership recruitment, retention and engagement to grow membership and increase engagement through becoming donors and/or volunteers.
- Information Management: Manage constituent database and related correspondence, and design database analysis and reports to inform strategies to meet fundraising, membership and volunteer goals.
- Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, cultivate, and manage volunteers to support all programs.
Primary Duties:
Development: Individual Donor Research, Cultivation, and Stewardship – 30%
- Works closely with the ED, Board of Directors, and other volunteers to coordinate and meet annual giving, planned giving, membership, and foundation giving goals for each fiscal year.
- Promptly responds to individual donor’s inquiries through written correspondence, telephone contact, personal contact, and email, assuring the donor that their needs are addressed.
- Generates acknowledgements for all gifts to individual donors within 48 hours of receipt.
- Attends relevant professional development opportunities to employ best practices in grant writing, development and fundraising ethics.
- Assists the Executive Director in preparing grant applications through review of budgets, reading and editing drafts and providing support.
- Provides support for planned giving efforts and gifts to the endowment.
Membership Activities – 25%
- Develops and implements programs to expand membership base and aid in retention of existing members using direct mail, internet, phone and other methods.
- Handles all member inquiries and issues.
- Coordinates National Audubon memberships and reporting.
- Membership events: oversees membership component of annual events including monthly membership programs, annual meeting, and other relationship cultivation and member recognition events.
- Collaborates with the Membership Committee chair and participates in monthly membership committee meetings.
- Identifies targeted outreach opportunities for membership recruitment, maintains a calendar of such events, and recruits volunteers to assist. Prepares outreach materials.
- Produces newsletter address labels for mailing and manages USPS accounts.
Information Management – 25%
- Manages the constituent database, including data entry.
- Manages donation acknowledgements and other special mailing projects.
- Established and maintains queries and reports to generate mailing lists, appeals, membership campaigns, and other targeted communications needs.
- Prepares fundraising reports for the ED and Development Committee, as requested.
- Distributes incoming mail, processes checks, and completes ‘requests for funds’ forms for approval by the ED.
Volunteer Coordination – 20%
- Organize annual volunteer appreciation events
- Maintain volunteer and potential volunteer records in database
- Recruit volunteers as needed
- Promote volunteer opportunities and celebrate volunteer accomplishments y writing periodic articles in our newsletter, e-newsletter, website or social media.
- Use[[http:Volunteermatch.org|Volunteermatch.org]] to promote new volunteer opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional experience in the nonprofit development field.
- AA degree or higher preferred.
- Professional fundraising certificate and/or trainings preferred.
- CRM database management skills, including query/report design required (experience with Neon CRM a plus).
- Grant research and writing experience desired, or willingness to be trained.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Deep commitment and passion for the conservation of our natural resources.
- Very organized and able to set priorities and handle multiple tasks; experience working in a small non-profit setting.
- Advanced proficiency with PC-based software, including Microsoft Office suite.
Other Job Requirements
- Must have a valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Work hours are variable; must be able to work at least one Saturday per month, and 3-4 evening meetings per month in a typical month.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
Salary, Benefits, Terms
This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary range is $37,000-$40,000 annually depending on experience. Benefits include paid medical/dental/vision insurance after 1 month (for employee only), after 3 months probationary period: paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. Employer matching IRA contributions eligible after 1 year of employment. We offer a flexible work schedule.
