Job Description:

SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT MANAGER, Office of Sustainability (MITOS), to provide leadership and implementation strategies on sustainable building design and construction, energy, water, stormwater, land management, and waste systems. Will lead the development of and enable the implementation of current and future related sustainability commitments, relevant data management, strategic planning, analysis, and collaborative relationships. Responsibilities include identifying performance metrics; representing MITOS on project teams managed by the Office of the Executive Vice President; creating a robust capacity building process that exposes MIT staff to cutting edge innovative strategies from peer institutions and the private sector; identifying and implementing best practices, enabling a process of continuous learning and improvement, and seeking support/expertise from others in order to enhance and improve MIT’s efforts to become more sustainable; developing reports and presentations; and representing MITOS on MIT/City of Cambridge committees.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: master’s degree in a related field; five-plus years’ professional experience; demonstrated experience in sustainability programs in universities or similar institutions, particularly in project management, community engagement, performance analysis, communications development, and website content management; familiarity with issues pertaining to energy and related emissions, building design and construction, waste, water, land, and transportation; exceptional interpersonal and oral (including public speaking) and written communication skills; knowledge of and familiarity with applied sustainability research; ability to build coalitions with a diverse student, faculty, and staff population; strong analytic and strategic planning skills; advanced understanding of energy, environmental, and sustainability issues; team-orientation; familiarity with web content development and management and website design and development; and ability to act decisively and independently to resolve issues, recognizing when to escalate.
